Don Kennedy  > Collections > In A Single Image - America's National Parks
Welcome to my collection of images from America's National Parks. Some years ago, I made it my lifelong goal to visit every national park. Over time, that goal has evolved and expanded. My plan now is to not only visit each park, but come away with a least one image that captures some aspect of that park. This doesn't mean I will always go for the iconic, obvious image. I look for a composition that goes beyond the postcard shot, but still tells a little piece of the story. Of course, when the iconic is the best image, I will take it and run.

This gallery contains one image from one hundred and three national parks, monuments, historic sites, memorials, and lakeshores/seashores. There are approximately 394, and I have been to about 150. Over time, I will be adding new images as I visit new parks, or go back to parks I have visited before, but don't have an image that meets my needs. Let me know what you think. I always appreciate feedback.

Don Kennedy > The Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site, Gallitzin, PA. The Allegheny Mountains were too steep for early steam locomotives to cross under their own power, so a series of inclined railroads were built. Stationary steam driven engines were at the top of each incline, and cars loaded with passengers and goods were hauled up the inclines with ropes. We are looking down the inclined plane. This is a section of reconstructed track. The steam engine house is directly behind the photographer.
