In A Single Image - America's National Parks : Welcome to my collection of images from America's National Parks. Some years ago, I made it my lifelong goal to visit every national park. Over time, that goal has evolved and expanded. My plan now is to not only visit each park, but come away with a least one image that captures some aspect of that park. This doesn't mean I will always go for the iconic, obvious image. I look for a composition that goes beyond the postcard shot, but still tells a little piece of the story. Of course, when the iconic is the best image, I will take it and run.

This gallery contains one image from one hundred and three national parks, monuments, historic sites, memorials, and lakeshores/seashores. There are approximately 394, and I have been to about 150. Over time, I will be adding new images as I visit new parks, or go back to parks I have visited before, but don't have an image that meets my needs. Let me know what you think. I always appreciate feedback.

View from the top of the Fire Island, NY lighthouse, looking down at the roof of the keepers quarters. The stone blocks surrounding both buildings used to be the old Fire Island light. When the old light was demolished in the 1850's, the stone was reused as part of the platform the new buildings sit on. Part of the Fire Island National Seashore, NY.

The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, St. Louis, MO. Also known simply as "The Arch". While trying to figure out how get something so huge into a single picture, I found myself forced to actively seek out slightly different view of a much photographed landmark. This is when I decided to not just visit national parks, and take pictures, but to find at least one publishable image of each part I visit.
